Mark P. Jensen
Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington
Mark P. Jensen has spent more than three decades researching the psychological treatment of pain. He is Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle and Vice Chair for Research in the department. His work is about how pain is measured, how a patient's own beliefs about pain shape its course, and the efficacy of psychological treatment on pain.
He has published eleven books and over 700 articles and book chapters on pain assessment and pain treatment. For twelve years, from 2010 to 2022, he was Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Pain, and from 2021 to 2024 he was president of The International Society of Hypnosis, where he still sits on the board.
His book Hypnosis for Chronic Pain Management received the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis award for the best book on hypnosis in 2011, and in 2014 the American Pain Society gave him the Wilbert E. Fordyce Clinical Investigator Award.
